PInewood Derby - DISTRICTS!

My pictures of the Derby aren't too exciting. I was still in my clothes from the Heart Run, starving, and trying to make sure Tali didn't run out into the mall. For pics of the car, go to http://rockinrepublic.blogspot.com/2009/03/pinewood-derby.html

Right after the Heart Run, we headed off to the Boy Scout Pinewood Derby District Championships. When I walked in and looked around, the song "Going the Distance" by Cake was all I could think of. The kids were excited, but the dads had their game faces on!

Josh raced in the Wolf Division. He had full confidence in Matt's derby car guidance and was expecting a top 3 finish. Matt kept warning him that might not happen. Each car raced four times, once in each lane. They had a video projection of the wall of the finish and each car's speed and place. It was really slick. Trish Smith, our babysitters' mom and our all-time cheerleader, can apparently do complicated computations in her head. She knew which lane was fast, which was slow, and with which cars were winning and which cars were close to Josh.

In the end, Josh's car finished 7th place. He was a little bit disappointed because the trophies were really cool, but still happy. He's excited to put this car on display in his room and start planning for next year's. But, mostly, he was excited to go get ice-cream.

Picture#1 - Slight disappointment with mising the top 3 trophies, followed by
Picture #2 - Indifference and hunger.
